Guided hunting in the high mountain back country includes first-rate accommodations and hearty meals. For private retreats and
family reunions, guests will command the exclusive use of Cimarroncita's
facilities, while delicious meals and customized activities enrich Steeped in the Old West history of the wild town of Cimarron and the Santa Fe Trail, Cimarroncita nestles against and climbs up into the Sangre de Cristo range of the southern Rocky Mountains in northeastern New Mexico at the heart of the Cimarron Canyon between Taos and Raton. Cimarroncita's Intriguing History - and Modern Adventure Originally the summer hunting grounds of the Ute Indians, the area became a turn-of-the-century tourist destination, lodging and dining facilities were constructed in 1908 for patrons of the St. Louis Rocky Mountain and Pacific Railway Resort. In 1930 the land and the historic buildings were acquired by Minnette Thompson where she established Cimarroncita Ranch Camp for Girls in 1931, operating it with her husband Frank Burk with its partner, nearby Cimarroncita Ranch Camp for Boys. Both camps flourished for 65 years until 1995. In 2001 Tucson attorney Minnette Burges, cousin and namesake of Minnette Thompson Burk, acquired Cimarroncita with the goals of honoring the history and integrity of this elegant outpost, preserving the land and the buildings, reinventing the use and expanding the recreation opportunities for guests at Cimarronctia. She and her husband Alán Huerta, a partner in the endeavor, have restored the historic buildings with careful attention to the original “Roughing it Deluxe” philosophy of Cimarroncita. While the joys of the outdoors are still emphasized, the accommodations, cuisine and facilities now feature high thread count sheets, delicious meals with fresh local produce and program directors who are among the best in the nation. This historic ranch retreat offers innovative wellness, cultural and training programs for women and men; private retreats for reunions, celebrations and meetings; as well as fishing and hunting opportunities.
